Book Blogger Hop Hop Hop

Its Blog Hop Friday...and the question of the week is.....

"If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title?"

I like to try, but sometimes I don't realize a book is part of a series until I'm half way through.  It really depends on the series.  I've found that some series really need to be read in order and others each one almost reads like a stand alone book.  For the most part I try to read series in order but I've found now that I am receiving some advance books that they aren't letting me know they are part of a series in the synopsis, and I don't realize it until I look it up later.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend, enjoy my blog and I'll see ya round the hop!

  1. Hi Heidi hopped on over from the blog hop. I like to read the series in order so I can get a sense of what is going on, not miss any key factors. Now you are right there are some series that can stand alone and that comes in handy too. I am a new follower hope to see you stop by.

  4. I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
    doesn't run chronologically.

That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.

On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.

    Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!

  5. I agree -- sometimes, series can be read out of order, and things make sense. However, I find I can follow the storylines & characters better if I try to read in order.

    Happy Hopping!

  7. Hi, thanks for stopping by my blog on the hop.

I try not to accept review books that are part of a series but sometimes it happens.

If it's a continuing story I have to start with book one. If it's just a continuing character I'm ok jumping in when ever.
