Synopsis

Half-succubus attorney Lily Knight has blood on her hands.

Haunted by guilt, behind on her rent, and facing professional disgrace, Lily must figure out how to survive in the wreckage of her former life. To make ends meet, she accepts a contract job she never wanted but can’t refuse—hunting another demon murderer. This time, the victims are human, and a shadowy government agency will reward Lily with a way out of her dire financial straits.

If Lily doesn’t solve the case before the news gets out, fear and hatred will put all demonkind at risk from the proverbial torch-carrying mob. But when a young succubus on the run from the authorities begs for her help, Lily faces a new conflict of interest—especially after the suspect, Eve, reveals her father is Lily’s old frenemy.

Now Lily must juggle the pressures of a high-stakes murder case, her complicated relationship with her “not-boyfriend” Sebastian, and responsibility for a wayward teenager as she races to find the real culprit.

When her investigation brings her face to face with an ancient, implacable entity fixated on bloody justice, Lily must reckon with her worst fear: the truth about what went down with Eve’s father in the desert—and its consequences.

Review:

I received a free copy of this book from the author and I am leaving a voluntary honest review.

Lily's world blew up at the end of Cambion's Law - She has lost her job as a prosecutor, her law license is in jeopardy, she can't find a job and is living with her friend Dani and her fiancé. She is sort of seeing Sebastian although she is still fighting her feelings for him. She has been attempting to get a job at a shelter for women, but with her law license in jeopardy her prospects are bleak.  She has one more job offer for a job that seems a bit shady but she needs to make money and this one is paying a lot.

Cambion's Blood finds Lily taking on investigating a slew of killings of men with all their blood drained and feathers in their throats. It can't be a demon and vampires aren't real so what could it be? While investigating, Lily also comes across the main suspect who she believes may also have been a victim, a young girl who Lily finds is actually the daughter of her former mentor. Feeling guilty about the way things ended between her former mentor Lily takes the girl under her wing and tries once again tries to shield someone she feels is innocent and find the real killer.

This book dives deeper into Lily and her motives, her feelings around being half demon and wondering if people like her for herself or because of her powers. It also dives into how the US treats people they don't understand or fear. Once upon a time humans were experimenting and trapping demons - that has changed, or has it? Now people are introducing legislation to take away rights from anyone not considered Human. Its a sad look at what fear does to humanity.

I really like this series and the ending left me holding my breath, wondering what will happen next.   I would not consider these stand-alone books and would suggest to anyone to read from the beginning since they do seem to build on the last one.
