Synopsis

Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it’s the natural flux of things, but Casey’s not so sure. It seems like something bigger is happening in the small town they call home.

When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, someone who seems to have come to the Yukon for a wilderness vacation but instead is now fighting for her life, it’s all hands on deck. What – or who – attacked this woman, and why?

With the woman unconscious, and no leads, Casey and Eric don’t know where the threat is coming from. Plus, the residents of their deeply secretive town are uneasy with this stranger in their midst. Everyone in Rockton wants this mystery solved – and fast.

Review:

I found this book on Scribd.

I love these books. They are not stand alone books as each book builds on the next.  Rockton is secret town in the Yukon Territory.  The people of Rockton are there to escape their lives, and they pay good money for it. Outside of Rockton there are true pioneers, as well as 2 splinter groups who live in the forest that have split off from Rockton and then there are the hostiles. The hostiles attack, kill and kidnap people, they seem to have reverted to animals.

Casey and Eric find a badly injured woman and the bodies of her 2 of her companions.  The woman speaks Danish and becomes violent when they try to help.  Finding out who she is, why she is there becomes a priority.  Then they have an unexpected visitor, Emily one of the people who runs Rockton from afar and the secrets she brings lead to confirmation of Casey's theory of where the hostiles come from and also the future of Rockton.

These books are fantastic, Kelley Armstrong has created a really fascinating adventure with these books without magic just mystery and the horribleness of humanity.  I love Casey and Eric and many of the characters in these books that keep me reading and desperate for a new installment.
