Synopsis

Lawyer. Demon. Lily Knight is both—half-human, half-succubus, and utterly dangerous.

Lily protects her secret and the safety of those around her by abstaining from the skin-to-skin contact that would grant her superhuman powers. An ambitious criminal prosecutor, she’s all work and no play, determined to prove herself in the courtroom to atone for the ex-lovers she’s left for dead in her past.

But after a fellow succubus turns up murdered and the police arrest an innocent man, Lily discovers evidence of a supernatural killer stalking the foggy San Francisco streets. And when human justice falls short, she launches an unsanctioned investigation to find the real culprit.

To stop the killer, she must embrace the full power of her heritage and risk the soul of the handsome suspect she can’t help but fall for. Can Lily face her true nature without losing her humanity—or will she become the monster she fears most of all?

Review:

Lily literally falls over something in the park while jogging, and when she turns to look what she tripped over she notices that its a body and not just any body but the body of a succubus, like her.  Her mentor shows up asking her for help and letting her know that this is not the only succubus that has been killed recently.  He wants her help in with protecting another succubus and finding out who this killer may be.  But when another woman shows up dead and her boyfriend is accused Lily decides she is going to be the one to put him away.  After all she is a prosecutor.  But when she meets with the accused and they mistakenly touch he sends her images of the night in questions and she realizes that he couldn't be the killer.

Trying to hide her demon side and deny the strong attraction she has to the main suspect in a string of murders is difficult when you are the prosecutor for the case.  It also doesn't help that she found one of the bodies and actually met the 2nd dead woman and the accused the night before. Lily finds herself stuck trying to figure out who is the real killer while trying to keep the spotlight off of herself.

I really loved the characters in this book.  Lily has a real problem.  She really has a bad self image, considering herself evil and trying to deny her demon side instead of embracing both sides of herself as something special.  As her relationship with Sebastian gets closer she can't fathom why he would like her for any other reason than due to something she did to him to sway his desires.

Sebastian seems to be the perfect partner for Lily. He is self confident, rich and knows what Lily is and isn't scared of her.

I also really enjoyed her best friend Dani - she is a strong self-assured woman who is super supportive of her best friend.

I am thrilled that I received an ARC of the next book in this series, Cambion's Blood which comes out June 7, 2022
