Synopsis

At a funeral on her 29th birthday, Ari takes stock of her life and comes to a startling conclusion: she’s not happy. Mired in a relationship that’s gone stale, she approaches her husband Greg about opening their marriage. To her shock, he agrees.

Ari throws herself headlong into an adventure through the bars and bedrooms of Austin. For the first time in her life she’s living in the moment – sex and kink, karaoke and drink – new friends, new lovers, new boundaries to cross. It’s all just innocent, no-strings fun…until she meets Alex.

Alex changes everything. While Ari and Greg grapple with their changing relationship, Ari struggles to control her heart. During hedonistic self-discovery, has she stumbled across love?

I really enjoyed this book.  In taking stock of her life Ari discovers that she is not happy. She feels her relationship has gone stale and asks her husband if they can open their marriage.  He agrees. However, I noticed that rarely after they opened their marriage did they make time for each other which was supposed to be the primary relationship in this polyamorous relationship experiment.

Of course feelings for other partners comes into play and while Ari has spent her time making new friends and sharing short flings with people her husband Greg has been having a relationship with just one person. Honestly I felt that many of the situations were handled fairly well throughout this book given the awkwardness of the many times they discover just how small Austin really is.

Eventually Ari finds someone who makes her a priority, doesn't hold her back from being who she is and really just compliments her. As her marriage falls apart its hard not just on her and Greg but also their best friends.

The characters were well developed the story held my interest and Ari's trysts were never dull but like Ari I kept going back to that first kiss after she opened her relationship and kept wondering what happened to that guy.
