Synopsis

The darkest secrets are the hardest to unearth.

Secret McQueen, Book 6

After her last mission tested the limits of her humanity and took her out of this world, Secret’s friends, determined to keep her safe from her old nemesis Alexandre Peyton, keep ushering her from one babysitter to the next.

Couch surfing would be a lot more fun if Alexandre would let up on her long enough to allow her to get in some alone time with her lovers. Including Holden, her self-appointed shadow.

As if living out of coffin isn’t bad enough, Secret literally brings down the house while hunting a rogue, causing the council to exile her from New York—for her own safety, of course.

With her list of people to trust getting shorter and shorter, Secret ends up embroiled in a mystery to find a vampire warden gone AWOL and a missing artifact. Things go from bad to worse when she falls into the hands of a man who will prove that humans can be the worst monsters of them all.

Review:

Secret is hiding from the vampire she exiled a few years ago. She is also now being asked to help the Vampire Counsel in California find a rogue vampire.  Everyone says she is perfect for the job.  Turns out that's because it's her father.  The one she has never met, the one that made her into what she is a half-breed were/vamp.

With Holden in tow she heads out to the last place he was seen, the Winchester Estate.  With its dead end halls and doors that lead nowhere. But what Secret finds is beyond even her imagining.

This was not my favorite Secret book but I did like being taken out of the perils of the monsters in her life.  We also learn that Secret has "claimed" pretty much all of her friends making them her "pack".  She also discovers something about getting her powers back that she didn't expect but is very pleased with.

I still love these books but with all series like these there are 1 or 2 that may not be as exciting as others.  It's still a good book in seeing how Secret ticks and what makes her who she is.  It also shows us more of her vulnerabilities. So while it's not my favorite I still say this series is worth the read, or in my case the listen.
